General Q & A about Giving to the Monastery

What are the Monastery's current needs and priorities, and how should I direct my gift?
The Monastery Fund, our "general fund", is an unrestricted fund that allows the Abbot the flexibility to respond to today's most pressing needs -- ranging from facilities maintenance of our historic facilities to medical care for elderly and infirm monks. The Monastery Fund is an essential supplement to our ongoing income from Monastery Industries (see website to learn more about our industries).
The Building Fund, our Season of Renewal Campaign - The Monastic Heritage Center has been the focus of our most recent capital campaign. The campaign was launched in 2008 and, to date, we have raised $5.5 million of the needed $7 million required to cover the project. Fund raising is ongoing and your gifts will enable the Monastery to welcome thousands of additional visitors each year.
How may I give?
While your unrestricted gifts will help the Monastery to address our most pressing needs, we will be happy to receive any special instructions from you regarding gift designation. You may make a gift or pledge payment in a variety of way.
- Personal or corporate check
You may mail a check (made out the Monastery of the Holy Spirit) to Monastery of the Holy Spirit Funds, 2625 Highway 212 SW, Conyers, Georgia 30094-4044. - Credit card gifts - Direct Debit (checking account)
You can now register to make secure online credit card or direct debit payments and direct your gifts to either of two funds. As a Registered User you gain access to your giving record and can update your profile. You can set up Recurring Gifts or Pledged Gifts in any amount and schedule that is convenient for you. Pledged credit card gifts can enable you to make a more significant gift that you might otherwise make at one time. - Wire transfer/EFT
The Monastery is able to accept gifts made via this method. Download and return a copy of the EFT form here. - Gift of securities
Donating securities to the Monastery of the Holy
Spirit is simple, and is often the most advantageous form of gift. If you have securities that have appreciated in value, giving them to the Monastery allows you to avoid capital gains taxes while also receiving a tax deduction for your gift. Discuss the tax benefits of our gift with your accountant or attorney.
Securities Held Electronically - Send your broker a letter of authorization to transfer (not sell) shares of specific stock(s) to the Monastery of the Holy Sprit's brokerage account. Send a copy of the letter to our office by email to cal@trappist.net or by fax at 770.760.0989. If you are transferring stock from a joint account, both owners must sign the letter. You can contribute stock from several companies held within the same account. Your instructions should specify:
1. Your account number
2. The date you wish to complete the gift
3. Stock name and number of shares you wish to donate
4. Purpose of the gift (Monastery Fund or Season of Renewal Campaign)
